Hertford Union Canal
Introduction: Perfect Saturday Walk
This walk is fairly easy to follow. It starts at the local food market, Broadway Market (open on Saturdays), and ends at Hackney Wick. The walk follows the canal tow path across Regent's and Hertford Union Canal alongside Victoria Park and ends at the the Olympic Stadium in artistic and industrial Hackney Wick. If you are planning to do some food shopping, I would recommend to do the walk the other way round or if you have some energy left, reverse the route through Victoria Park.

Map and Directions
Walk southwards on Broadway Market (the opposite direction of London Fields) and descend on the canal path just left before the bridge. Follow the canal path alongside Victoria Park. Pass the first lock, follow under the bridge and turn left onto Hertford Union Canal (see picture below).

Crossing of Regent's Canal and Hertford Union Canal
Just before the canal ends onto a T-junction (at the River Lea), cross the footbridge and follow onto Roach Road. You can stop for a drink with canal side view at Stour Space. Follow Roach Road onto Beach Road and take the first left. Turn left again into Bream Street and right for a panoramic view of the Olympic Stadium via Greenway. Return to Dace Road to cross the river Lea lock. Turn left, passing the Olympic Stadium on the right and Fish Island on the left. Walk up the bridge and turn right to have a closer look at the Olympic Stadium and the park or turn left to head to Hackney Wick Overground station (take the first right on White Post Lane).

  1. I recently moved to Bow and it was so nice to do the walk and discover the area. It's really beautiful to walk along the canal and Victoria Park. I started from Hackney Wick so I could reward myself with food at Broadway market, that's really recommendable!
